Bohemiskt Gårdsbröllop I Skåne: Brandy + Gustaf
We first met in Munich, Germany, when we were both there for a work event. We didn't start dating until a year and 4 months later.
We got engaged in Chamonix, France in March of 2019. Late in our holiday week Gustaf said to me that rather than stop at the ski side pub we should just buy a few beers that evening and pack them up with us the next day. I thought that was a clever idea. I had no idea that he had a proposal planned. The next day we made our first few runs and then he suggested we ski out to a hill top ledge overlooking the valley and have our beers. I was busy taking photos and texting with family back home and when I looked up he was on one knee and had the ring. I was absolutely speechless and he had to later press me to give him an answer because I simply forgot. I remind myself often to thank him for this because he gave me every little girls fairy tale moment. I can still get tears in my eyes just thinking about that day.
Bröllopstemat
We told our guests that the dress code was "farm fancy" so I guess that can kind of be the theme but our focus was a relaxed feeling that captured the feeling of the old farm and our life here.
Om klädseln
I found my wedding dress designer after reading a Sister In Law blog post where another Rue dress was featured. The dress I selected was love at first site and I thought it was a perfect fit for me and the farm setting. Gustaf did not want a formal suit but rather something with a bit more whimsy. The blue jacket and brown vest fit the rustic farm feel we were going for and they are something he will use time and time again as they also suit his everyday style. We both wore boots that we already owned.
Styling och accessoarer
The hat for the Sept 3 party was made by a talented friend, Per Brink (Instagram @perbrinkhats). The color was, of course, inspired by the colors in the dress. The jewelry by Lotta Jewelry was chosen because I love her work. The focus on nature fits well with our way of life and the old farm. I chose comfort and wore a pair of boots that I already owned. Gustaf styled his day with a one-year anniversary gift from me, a vintage Omega watch, and his old scuffed boots.
Blommorna
The professional flowers by Paulina at Kreativa Blomster were a perfect capture of our style. The bouquet for June 6 was so beautfiul that we asked her to do something very similar for Sept 3. We opted to not have a lot of professional flowers in order to let the natural environment take the center stage. Paulina also created the two flower sprays that were on the arch for Sept 3 following the same color theme and rustic feel as the bouquet.
Inspirationen bakom bröllopet
We were very inspired by having a rustic farm feel and bringing in elements of our history and the farm's history into the day. We used dried flowers that Gustaf had given to me over the years as confetti after the ceremony. The dried petals were wrapped in cone pages of Kalle Anka that we use when training my Swedish. The hand-painted wooden signs that we used for different parts of the day was old barn wood from here at the farm. The dinner was held in the old pig stable and we used farm animal decor on the tables. We also worked with our caterers to come up with a menu that highlighted pork. Honey from our own bees was also used in the dinner menu. We used flowers from our garden to decorate the dinner tables. The wedding arch was made from old barn wood here at the farm.
Platsen för bröllopet
When we decided to get married it didn't take us long to decide that we wanted to do it at home. We knew that would require taking on some projects but we love keeping busy so that made it even more fun and personal. With all of the developing situation with COVID we were glad we were doing it at home and could be flexible with the date rather than being committed to an external venue.
Vigseln
COVID caused us to postpone the original date of June 6, 2020 but we decided to proceed with the ceremony, in secret. June 6 was also my parents wedding anniversary and they were married 62 years when my father passed so it was a special for us to honor them in that way. This ceremony was very intimate and special because it was simple and just us and our dogs.
We then rescheduled the bigger event for June 2021 but due to continued travel restrictions, as my family was coming from the US, we had to postpone one more time. Finally on September 3, 2021 we were able to gather friends and family for the big party. We stressed a lot about the blessing ceremony and how that would go. We didn't want people to feel like we lured them to a fake wedding. We decided to make it special by telling the guests that we wanted to begin the ceremony by telling some stories. In both Swedish and English we recounted when we first met, our first date and the proposal. It was in our own words and we were able to give people a glimpse of very special moments in our lives. We had a lot of fun telling these stories and we were later told that people really enjoyed this. We finished by telling them that we couldn't wait to be married and we had therefore married in June 2020. As it turned out, people were not disappointed but rather they were happy and thankful that we had proceeded with our plans in spite of COVID.
The table decor as also farm inspired. We used live and dried flowers for the tables. We used a a mix of metal, glass, brick and dried and live flowers to create a lot of visual variety on the tables. None of them were the same. We also included pigs and other farm animal figures on the tables to tie to the history of the farm. There was a variety of candles and candle holders in different colors to tie in the theme of the day.
We decided to use clean white table settings and clear glasses in order to let the stable and table decore shine. The napkins were an old fashioned striped linen.
Om bröllopsfotografen
We first met Micke before our engagement photos. He came here to do that photo session. Neither of us are very comfortable in front of the camera but he made us feel at ease and helped us to get into the mood. The photos were so lovely that it was an easy choice to ask him to photograph our June 6 and Sept 3 days. Micke's style suits us very well. We love the way he can capture a mood and feeling with his artful eye. We love that our farm serves as the background for many of the photos which makes them extra special for us. He has photographed us now three times so we feel at ease with him and consider him a friend.
Tips till andra
Having a wedding at home seems like a good idea but you need to be prepared to take on a lot of repsonsibility for making sure everything is ready for your big day. Due to COVID we found ourselves with some extra time but in the end we finished all the projects that we had planned and we had a lot of fun doing it. Even though we had everything planned we did hire someone to be the "boss of the day" to move people around, light candles and keep everything on track and this was a very smart thing to do so that we could relax and enjoy the day.
The most important thing for us was that our guests walked away having amazing memories from this day so we focused a lot on things that guests will remember like the food, the atmosphere and the party. The caters are our friends and that made the collaboration so nice and easy and we were able to come up with a menu that they executed to perfection.
We used many areas of the farm to create different moods and atmospheres that fit the day as it progressed. We started the guests in the front garden getting "in the mood for love" with music, drinks and mingling. They moved to the side garden for the blessing ceremony and then continued to the back garden for champagne and the start of the party. We moved into the stable for dinner and then we used the barn for the party. The band was also a special part of the day. Two friends are part of this 1940's style band and they came and filled the space with character. They set up on the edge of the dance floor and we were able to feel like we were living a moment out of the past.
