Angela och Derek är ett amerikanskt par som bor i Nederländerna, som valde att anordna ett destinationsbröllop i Sverige. De gifte sig den 23 juli 2019 på vackra Villa Björkudden i Stockholm skärgård och anlitade fotografen Tanya Borodina för att föreviga sin dag. Tillsammans med Angelas bröllopsberättelse på engelska, får vi nu njuta av ett bröllop i gröna, blåa och vita nyanser.

Så träffades brudparet

Angela: Derek and I are Californians currently living in The Netherlands. We met online via a classified advertisements website called Craigslist. Derek's roommate in college had secretly put his picture and biography on the site and when I saw it, I thought, he's really cute and seems fun. Since then, we've spent 10 years in love and mutually decided it would be wonderful to celebrate and honor our love with a marriage ceremony.

Bröllopstema och inspiration

Angela: Nearly all in attendance at the wedding were from America so a trip to Sweden was a theme in and of itself. We spent three days at the venue with about 30 people and had many friends and family stay in surrounding hotels that were a short boat ride away. Driving the boat around the Swedish archipelago was a delight for our families and friends!
Derek and I visited our Swedish friends for the first time in 2015. We instantly fell in love with the country's stoic nature, grand architecture, and its fun-loving people. Since then, we've been invited into their homes countless times and each and every experience is filled with joy and humor. Both of my grandmother's families came from Sweden and hosting the wedding here was a call to celebrate our newest traditions while exploring a part of my family's history.

Brudklädsel och styling

Angela: I found the perfect dress at Wild at Heart bridal in Nijmegen Netherlands. It was the dress called Delilah by Rime Arodaky. From her website: "Since 2011, Rime has been designing wedding dresses, by being part of this new generation who decided to shake the traditional wedding codes, and to bring style and attitude in very static & conventional industry." I wanted my hair and make-up to look natural and romantic.
Derek kept it simple, wearing a dark blue suit with brown shoes and belt that he purchased when he was a groomsman in our best friend's wedding.

Blomster och dekorationer

Angela: We wanted wild flower arrangements with small flowers, variety, textures, light colors, we wanted it to be playful, to keep your attention and to be fragrant and earthy. The colors we chose for the flowers were: White, Gold or Yellow, and Eucalyptus (pale green/blue). Flowers by Saffo created the beautiful arrangements that we placed all over the house, on every table, over fireplaces, and the large round arch under which we were married.

Ceremonin

Angela: The ceremony was officiated by Derek's roommate who originally put the advertisement on Craigslist! He always said he was responsible for our being together and so we thought he was the perfect person for the job. We had a short, 30 minute ceremony that included quotes from Hegel, speeches from my brother and Derek's sister, and we each shared our handwritten vows.

Angela: We love our photos and videos. We found Tanya's portfolio online and arranged to meet her in Sweden while visiting friends a few months before the wedding. We instantly knew she was the one who could capture our personalities and really tell the story of our day. She is such a genuine, caring, and kind person that we felt completely relaxed whenever she was behind the camera. She also recommended an excellent pair of videographers - 10/10 we would recommend her and her team.

Bästa minnena från dagen

Angela: My favorite memories are of the speeches given during the ceremony and after the dinner. Having so many people who love you in one place telling you how much they love you is one of the greatest experiences we've shared. We also printed out a few snapsvisor for everyone and had one of our Swedish friends lead the group in singing and drinking Brännvin - it was so fun!

Tips till andra som planerar bröllop

Angela: Start early and agree on the negotiables and non-negotiables with your future spouse beforehand because there will have to be compromises made! The best thing we did was go into this knowing the number 1 most important thing to each of us. For Derek it was the food and for me it was the venue. Knowing that we each got our #1 want made deciding everything else a lot easier. We used Notion to project manage our wedding since it was DIY and built a website and Facebook page that helped guests understand what to expect, how to get around, and to coordinate with each other.
We loved having our friends help with the set-up, tear-down, boat taxi, and many many other details. It was a great way for people to feel helpful and to get to know each other. We recommend that you have at least two other people besides yourselves who know what needs to be done. Using the project planning tool really helped because we could include our best man and maid of honor in all the details making it easier for them to delegate tasks and it freed us up to work on the most important pieces.
